Hypnotic and The Black Demon (shark movie)

Image
Hey everyone I know this is not the regular good movies I do but I was really trying to like these movies that others didn't like also.    You know when you think a film is going to be great and by the end, it spins out of control into a confusing mess. It starts out as a simple detective mystery then ends up like something off of a Basic and The Matrix combination.   Those are the only 2 films I could compare this to.  It leads you on a wild goose chase the whole film and right when you are getting excited about the film it just really goes south.  There are not really any spiritual aspects to it.  It just seems like Robert Rodriguez who did Dusk till dawn and Planet Terror really didn't know how to fix the confusing script.  It is good but it seems like it doesn't really end.  Watch at your own risk.  It will seem like a good film but it will take you somewhere else after.  It also seems like a false heaven in the protagonist's he...

Big George Foreman

Image
Big George Foreman: Hello everyone, what kind of story happens when a man is at the top of his game and he loses the Heavyweight Championship of the world and has a comeback?  Well, that is the life of George Foreman.   This is a very well-made movie by Affirm Films along with the distribution by Sony Pictures.  This is a biopic made in an original way.  Most Christian movies try to shove the Gospel down your throat rather than trying to meet the needs of the masses.  There is a scene when a grandma comes up to George at church and asks him to train her grandson.  George is high and mighty like we preachers can be.  We like to toot our own horns instead of answering the needs of the people.  Then he blows the kid off and tells him all he needs is the Bible.  Well a week later that same kid is arrested in a robbery and put in jail.  That is when George realizes that he needs to train again and also to start a youth center and ...

The Covenant

Image
You know what happens when you have an epiphany?  Or, you remember a time in your life that seems real right now and you can't distinguish between what is made up and was is actually real in your life?  Well, that is what it was like to watch Guy Ritchie's The Covenant.   Many of you may or may not know that I was a missionary in Haiti for 10 years.  But the feelings I got in this film reminded me of my former home.  There are just some things that you can't sense unless you lived in a 3rd world country and sensed the pain and the struggle of the people of that country.   In this film, we see 2 men who don't know each other and who are brought together by a job opportunity.  There are some men in Afghanistan who worked as interpreters with U.S. soldiers who are risking their lives in order to keep our troops safe.  This story is about 2 men John Kinley and Ahmed.  When an U.S. army squad is pinned down by the Taliban everyone...

Sweetwater

Image
Hey everyone this is Lance again with another movie review.  I came across this online and it seemed interesting.  This film is about  Nat "Sweetwater" Clifton   who was the first African American to play for the New York Knicks.  He was one of the three African American players to play in the NBA. The film talks about change and how the times were changing in the 1950s.  The theme is throughout the film and maybe that is what we need to think about.  We need to analyze ourselves and find out who were are and what our values are.  This film has appearances by many famous actors such as Carl Elwes of Saw and Princess Bride fame, along with Richard Dreyfus, Jeremy Piven, and Kevin Pollack to name a few.   The drive for a man to go from the Harlem Globetrotters to the NBA reminds me of how many of us have dreams that many think are impossible.  But when we trust God and the talent he gives us then it can really happen.  We ...

Champions, Game night and The Samuel Project

Image
Hello everyone from rainy south Texas.  It was a perfect day to watch a movie but I watched a few this weekend so let's get started.   First, we have the film Champions.                                                           Champions is a new Woody Harrelson film that takes place in Des Moines, Iowa.  He plays a coach named Marcus.  He is a coach with a minor league basketball league and pushes his coach loses his job and also hits a police car while he is drunk.   When he appears in court the judge orders him to coach a special needs basketball team.  What ensues is mayhem, comedy, and an inspirational story that will melt your heart.  I have a special needs son, so this story is important to me.  It also has a love story and many emotional moments throughout the film.  Thi...

April 9th review

Image
Hello everyone this is not my normal Easter review blog, but I thought I would change it up this year.  Here are 4 movies I will be reviewing this week.   Let's start with Air, I saw this film with my daughter this past week and it is an amazing film that chronicles the signing of Michael Jordan to his first shoe deal Sonny Vaccaro.   Sonny who is played by Matt Damon is well-acted and very entertaining.  It is good to see Chris Tucker come back to movie theaters in this film and he really nails the role as Howard White who is one of the only African American agents at NIKE at the time.  Ben Affleck plays Phil Knight the notorious CEO of NIKE.   Overall the film is excellent I am just surprised it wasn't put in the December films because this could be a film that may be up for awards by the end of the year.  I would highly recommend it,  but if you are going to watch it with your family, I wouldn't because of the language throughout...

A Man Called OTTO

Image
A Man called OTTO what can I say about this? I don't think I can say enough about it.  This is one film that will give you hope for the human condition.  It shows that no matter how much of a grump you are, there is always a heart in there even if it is an enlarged one.   This film starts with a man who thinks no one cares and he is ready to end his life because his wife has died but then there is an immigrant family that moves in next door to him and kind of adopts him as their family.  He is puzzled about how clueless the husband is about tools and how much of an idiot he is.   This Hispanic family gives him a reason to live and also a reason to fight.  Or as Dylan Thomas put it "Do not go gently into that dark night."  There is always a reason to live.  Many people feel hopeless, but there is always an opportunity to help someone.  Whether it is just opening a door for someone, saying high, or just listening to those in pa...
