Champions, Game night and The Samuel Project
Hello everyone from rainy south Texas. It was a perfect day to watch a movie but I watched a few this weekend so let's get started.
First, we have the film Champions.
Champions is a new Woody Harrelson film that takes place in Des Moines, Iowa. He plays a coach named Marcus. He is a coach with a minor league basketball league and pushes his coach loses his job and also hits a police car while he is drunk.
When he appears in court the judge orders him to coach a special needs basketball team. What ensues is mayhem, comedy, and an inspirational story that will melt your heart. I have a special needs son, so this story is important to me. It also has a love story and many emotional moments throughout the film.
This is directed by Bobby Farrelly if you have seen the other films by the Farrelly brothers then you know what kind of film this is. It is a silly comedy with a great story. It has language throughout the film but anyone who likes Adam Sandler films will like this one. It is a little silly and has elements of sexual references but the film overall is good. It is mainly for teens and adults, and because of that, parents be cautioned to watch this with their children. It is available in theaters and also online for rent or purchase at various outlets online.
I was looking on IMDB the other day and I stumbled on this film. I found out it was available on Roku and also on Tubi for free. It stars Hal Linden from Barney Miller fame as Samuel a Jewish dry cleaner and Alex Ochoa as his grandson Eli.
This film is very interesting and accomplishes its story very well. Eli is tasked with making a visual art project in his A/V class and is stuck with a partner no one wants Kasim who is assigned to do that project with Eli but he doesn't want to do anything. Then Eli has to come up with an idea of what the project will be about.
Then he decides to ask his grandfather about his past. How he got into the country? Where his Jewish family is from? And what happened in World War 2 with his family. It is a heart-warming film that all families should watch it has mild language in it and is a great family film for every family to watch.
It shows the struggles of how some families really had to work hard when they came to this country and through perseverance and survival you can be successful no matter what is put in front of you. What drew me to the film was the relationship between the grandfather and the grandson. The grandson learned the business of a dry cleaner and then his grandfather told his grandson his story. I will definitely recommend this film.
Game night is a crazy and sometimes surreal film about a group of couples who have a game night one night and then the unexpected happens. It is a crazy film and follows many of the Is it a game? or not rules. It reminded me of a film called The Game from the 90's with Michael Douglas and Sean Penn except this one is much funnier.
It takes all kinds of twists and turns, going from here to there. I just don't know how to describe it without giving anything away. It is available online to rent or buy through various online outlets. Brace yourself you are about to be in for a wild ride.
Take Care Y'all,
Lance
