Hypnotic and The Black Demon (shark movie)
Hey everyone I know this is not the regular good movies I do but I was really trying to like these movies that others didn't like also.
You know when you think a film is going to be great and by the end, it spins out of control into a confusing mess. It starts out as a simple detective mystery then ends up like something off of a Basic and The Matrix combination.
Those are the only 2 films I could compare this to. It leads you on a wild goose chase the whole film and right when you are getting excited about the film it just really goes south. There are not really any spiritual aspects to it. It just seems like Robert Rodriguez who did Dusk till dawn and Planet Terror really didn't know how to fix the confusing script. It is good but it seems like it doesn't really end. Watch at your own risk. It will seem like a good film but it will take you somewhere else after. It also seems like a false heaven in the protagonist's head. I wish there was more of a spiritual aspect to it. They are focused on what is going on in Ben Affleck's head instead of what kind of difference he could make with the film is involved with. It has cool action but leads to a confusing ending.
Let's get to one of the cheesiest films I have seen all year. I only watched this film because it starred Josh Lucas. The Black Demon was supposed to be a Megladon shark film which had me interested. But what ends up happening with many of these films it turns into a supernatural-type film based on a curse. Josh Lucas has to go check on an oil rig which is in Baja California so he decides to take his family so they could also have a vacation out of it.
But of course, the town is cursed and the Aztec gods are cursing the village and the Megladon is eating anyone who goes out to the rig. I generally don't mind the false gods mentioned in the film taking more focus than the actual God. God is given his general reference. I guess I should have known with the brief references to him. I know films like this one I usually watch because they are so bad it's good but this one tried to be scary but never really landed. It feels like it tried too hard to be scary. But when your film does not have that many kills and the crew is very small you can kind of predict that this isn't going to be a great film. There is not much swearing but with the references to the Aztec gods and other aspects, it just makes it a less appealing film probably for most people.
I don't mind films with Aztec gods or demons that are fighting people but what I want to see is that God or Jesus is victorious. This film is just kind of a mess and not very scary. I would recommend you skip it. Take Care, everyone.
