A Man Called OTTO

Image
A Man called OTTO what can I say about this? I don't think I can say enough about it.  This is one film that will give you hope for the human condition.  It shows that no matter how much of a grump you are, there is always a heart in there even if it is an enlarged one.   This film starts with a man who thinks no one cares and he is ready to end his life because his wife has died but then there is an immigrant family that moves in next door to him and kind of adopts him as their family.  He is puzzled about how clueless the husband is about tools and how much of an idiot he is.   This Hispanic family gives him a reason to live and also a reason to fight.  Or as Dylan Thomas put it "Do not go gently into that dark night."  There is always a reason to live.  Many people feel hopeless, but there is always an opportunity to help someone.  Whether it is just opening a door for someone, saying high, or just listening to those in pa...

She said Review

Image
I know I don't usually do a review on just one film but I thought I would make an exception tonight.  The film I am reviewing is SHE SAID. This film follows two female reporters who are investigating the Harvey Weinstein case.  The film starts slow and unassuming but then slowly moves into a modern All the President's Men with female reporters.  The story is solid and told in a very entertaining way.   I really was interested in this story because a family member I know was sexually abused and nothing was done about it.  This film can give me some closure on that incident in my life.  No woman should be subjected to this kind of abuse or misconduct in the workplace.  There is no place for it.   This film addresses an issue that has been a major problem for many companies where there is a powerful head of the company with many women as employees.  These men need to be reported and serve prison sentences.  If no one will sp...

Violent Night and Willies wonderland

Image
Hello everyone!  I hope all of you had a great Christmas and a happy new year.  Well for the new year, I thought I would start with a review of Violent night.  It is an homage to Die Hard and Santa Clause in a fun action film that came out during Christmas.   It follows the normal Christmas movie Schtick with families wanting to get together for Christmas, and families trying to suck up to their mother who is very wealthy.  But it all goes wrong when kidnappers show up looking for some money that had been hidden away in secret.  It is a fun and very violent and gruesome Christmas film.  If you don't like watching Die Hard, you won't like this film.  There are many Die Hard references, It has an absurd amount of language and it is very violent.   I wouldn't recommend this for families who don't have an open mind about this film or if you don't regularly watch R-rated films, don't watch this film.  I thought it was great a...

Overlord, A Christmas Story Christmas and On the line.

Image
Now I know it has been a long time since my last review but I just saw this film and I really didn't know why I haven't watched it before.  It is a tour de force action on every level.  It starts out that a platoon is assigned to take out a tower in a French town, east of Normandy.  The platoon is blown to shreds and only but a few survive to take on the tower.   When they arrive in this town they meet a French woman that takes them in even though the town is infested with Nazi troops.  It is a fight for survival for this group of 4 or 5 soldiers to take out the tower and also stop the Nazi's from having superhuman troops that will not die.  Can this squad do it?  It is for you to watch and find out.   There is action on every turn of this film and I will recommend anyone who is a fan of World War 2 movies that includes a Resident Evil type feel.  It starts out like your typical WW2 films but then takes a turn which makes the...

Diary of a Spy (2022)

Image
This film opened in a limited release today it is also on Amazon where you can rent it or buy it.  I have never been more thrilled than I have in this film.  A story about a washed-up CIA agent who is given one last job in order for her to have any kind of future in her life.   She is given the assignment of becoming the girlfriend of a tutor to someone from a Saudi family.  It leads to all kinds of complicated relationships and having the main character asking should I finish the job or should I follow my heart.   I didn't know much going into this film but it is fantastic.  It is slow-moving but still interesting.  It makes you question is she in love or is she still going to do her job.  It keeps you wondering the whole film.  But there are still questions at the end of the movie you may be wondering about?  What happened to them?  Which agencies were they actually working for?  It is interesting all around and tho...

The Academy Awards and Will Smith

Hey everyone normally I would have something that I watched and I would review it on this blog.  But this is not about how CODA  won the best picture or how Will Smith won the best actor for a great film called King Richard.  No that is not this blog.  Will Smith took it upon himself to take matters into his own hands when he shouldn't have.  It is funny when Will Smith can't take a joke at his wife's expense even though he has done it to others.  I commend Denzel Washington and Tyler Perry for consoling another brother in Christ but Chris Rock is not the problem.  You need to take care of your own house before you lash out at others.   We all know that Jada has a disease that makes her lose her hair.  Chris Rock's joke was insensitive but if he reacted this way to a joke what will happen next? What happens to the next person that says a joke about Will Smith or his wife.  He can't beat everyone up.  Chris Rock to the hi...

CODA

Image
Now that it is Academy Award season, I thought I would start watching the best picture nominations.  The first one I am going to write about is going to be CODA.  It is available on Apple TV if you are interested in it.   This film is about Ruby Rossi who is in high school and her parents and her brother are deaf.  They run a fishing business with their daughter as their translater.  She joins the choir at her school because of a boy but finds her voice through her Teacher Mr. Villalobos.   She works hard with him and starts to really find her voice and that music is her passion.  She then tries to explain music to her deaf family.  They don't understand because they can't hear it then she shows them that it is like a story.  Then they start to understand her passion and that she needs to go for her dreams.   This is a very encouraging story about how you need to go for your dreams.  Ruby is trying to get into ...
