Night at the movies with Lance

  Now that it is Academy Award season, I thought I would start watching the best picture nominations.  The first one I am going to write about is going to be CODA.  It is available on Apple TV if you are interested in it.   This film is about Ruby Rossi who is in high school and her parents and her brother are deaf.  They run a fishing business with their daughter as their translater.  She joins the choir at her school because of a boy but finds her voice through her Teacher Mr. Villalobos.   She works hard with him and starts to really find her voice and that music is her passion.  She then tries to explain music to her deaf family.  They don't understand because they can't hear it then she shows them that it is like a story.  Then they start to understand her passion and that she needs to go for her dreams.   This is a very encouraging story about how you need to go for your dreams.  Ruby is trying to get into ...

A new film that was released recently on Apple TV is Finch starring Tom Hanks.  Finch is a apocalyptic masterpiece that shows us how we need belonging in our lives.  Hanks is an engineer who is living in a closed off bunker in the middle of St. Louis, Missouri.  At this time in this civilization, the ozone has been destroyed and there are gamma ultra violet rays that can burn your skin.  Then Hanks character Finch creates a robot to help take care of his dog.  Then a storm is coming and forces all of them to leave. This film goes through the many adventures that they have along the way, what they do and where they are going.    Even though there aren't many characters throughout the film, the characters show love for one each other.  The film really explores the many emotions that we all have, our longing and what we want to accomplish in our lives.  It is a real masterpiece, on many levels.  It shows that you don't even need to be human...

 Hello everyone it's me again.  One thing that frustrates me about Christian movies and sometimes in ministry in general, is that sometimes they put money ahead of ministry.  This film is available on prime video but the cost is steep, 9.99 to rent and 19.99 to buy.  So I spent the money to see a film I have been wanting to see for awhile.  The film is directed by a good christian film maker named Rich Christiano.  He has directed films like: Time Changer, Secrets of Johnathan Sperry, and A Matter of Faith.   The story is about a youth minister that takes over a youth group with apathy.  It does relate to teens today but it misses in execution.  The story is well written and it can have an effect on youth today but to me it just needed a little more money and they could have made a better film.  The film is a good watch for families and is very family friendly.  It deals with many issues that you see at churches and school toda...

 One of the newest films from prime video is The Tomorrow War with Chris Pratt.  This film I had no expectations going into it.  The friend that referred me to this film said it was like Jurassic Park.  Man wasn't that far from the truth.  This film is amazing.  It has every kind of action sequence you want in a creature feature.  The film is about according to prime video it says: "A family man is drafted to fight in a future war where the fate of humanity relies on his ability to confront the past."   That is a very brief way of describing this story.  In the future there is a draft where you need to fight for 7 days in the future in order to save mankind.  You can check this out on prime video through amazon prime.  I would highly recommend this film.  It has everything.  It has been out since July and on the first weekend over 2.4 million households watched it.  This movie is amazing.  I don't want to give aw...

  The film Lansky is premiering in theaters this weekend.  I would recommend you go see it.  Lansky is about a very flawed Jew named Myre Lansky.  His family was once from Russia but when the came to the US he swore to figure out the rackets around New York city and the surrounding areas to control all gambling.  This film Lansky is played by Harvey Keitel.  This is the performance of the year.  I have never been so mesmerized by one actor then Keitel.  He becomes Lansky and shows what life was like in the past.  There is a author who is helping him write his biography and he meets him for lunch to start his biography.  He promises to publish until Lansky has died.  This begins our story.   Throughout his life, he is a gangster and is very brutal is how he treats his business associates.  But he also tries to keep his family in order, and tries to make the business be successful.  It seemed like the only thing he...

  Hello everyone,  normally I don't write a review right after watching a film but I did this time because it deserves it.  I just have always had a suspicion about the 2Pac and Biggie Wallace murders.  This film just brings out the corruption in the L.A. Police Department.  It just is so captivating on the investigation of the murders and where one man would go to uncover the truth.  The story follows Jack Johnson interviewing Henry Poole to find out information about how Christopher "Biggie" Wallace was killed.  Jack Johnson is played by Forest Whitaker and Henry Poole is played by Johnny Depp.  This film goes into what the police department was like during that time.  It shows all of the corruption of the LAPD and the influence record producer Marion Hugh "Suge" Knight Jr. had on the department.   This film reminds me of L.A. confidential and also the Spotlight with  the corruption, and how a newspaper reporter was able to u...

 Hello everyone sorry I have been on a hiatus but I just really needed sometime to find myself and fix what I can in my life.  Alright back to the movies.  The film is called The map of the tiny perfect things and it is online only on Amazon Video.  This film was referred to me by a friend and I can't say enough about it.   This film takes place at a middle America small town like most of us live in but with a boy whose day keeps repeating like the film Groundhog Day with Bill Murray.  But the catch in this film the boy is in High school dealing with all of the high school boy problems.  Then he meets a girl who is having the same thing everyday.  What you might think happens, does then chaos ensues.  This film is a masterpiece!  It is the best Amazon released film since I saw since 8th grade which was also released by Amazon studios also.  It is a much needed art at this current time in history.  It is a much needed film ...
