Play the Flute review (Christian Movie)

Hello everyone it's me again.  One thing that frustrates me about Christian movies and sometimes in ministry in general, is that sometimes they put money ahead of ministry.  This film is available on prime video but the cost is steep, 9.99 to rent and 19.99 to buy.  So I spent the money to see a film I have been wanting to see for awhile.  The film is directed by a good christian film maker named Rich Christiano.  He has directed films like: Time Changer, Secrets of Johnathan Sperry, and A Matter of Faith.

The story is about a youth minister that takes over a youth group with apathy.  It does relate to teens today but it misses in execution.  The story is well written and it can have an effect on youth today but to me it just needed a little more money and they could have made a better film.  The film is a good watch for families and is very family friendly.  It deals with many issues that you see at churches and school today.

It also shows how people put others down in order to make themselves look better.  It also shows that you can always forgive no matter what someone did to you.  This film can be useful for a church movie night or using with a youth group.  The problem with many of these films is they the acting isn't always there.  But this time they at lease got a few familiar faces for watchers to recognize.  Loretta Swift (MASH) and Clint Howard (Solo and Apollo 13) are in this film and bring some sense of respectability to this film.  Brett Varvel Plays Brandon Cobb the main character in this film, he is the youth minister that is thrown into this youth group position no one wants.

He shows he can carry film and also stars in the new Kurt Warner film American Underdog.  He brings humanity to the character and shows what a minister would feel in these situations.  I will be interested in seeing what he does in the future.

If you can get past the low budget aspect of the film I believe you can enjoy this with 12 years and up because there is a situation that younger audiences won't understand.  I hope you enjoy the film.

  1. Nice review. Interesting that Loretta is in it. Heard some not so nice things about her, but that was a long time ago. I know actors aren’t necessarily Christian in Christian themed movies. People can and do change. I’m example of that. Keep up the great reviews!
