Oppenheimer

This review is very late and long overdue but I thought I would still do it now to let you know my opinion of this film  It is a masterpiece.  It may be a front-runner for the Best Picture Oscar.  It follows the life of J. Robert Oppenheimer.  This follows the nomination of Colonel Strauss who is up for a cabinet position at the White House.  Through various interviews, it shows the history of Oppenheimer and his rise to become the Director of operations at the Los Almos army base which was part of the Manhattan Project and eventually developing an atomic bomb.

The one aspect I really enjoyed was the regret of what he had done.  He also wanted to support the Manhattan Project because of what Hitler had done to the Jewish people in Europe because his family was Jewish and wanted to support them.  But he sometimes lacked the moral compass and the right attitude of what to do in life.  He cheated on his wife and couldn't let go of a lover he had before he married his wife.  Some of these struggles haunt him, along with the thousands of lives he felt responsible for killing in Japan.

But overall the film is interesting, it shows the red scare aspect in the 50s that was coming after the war.  It also showed how many people were interested in various ideas of Communism in the 1930s.  There are many historical themes in the film that are beyond belief.

I wouldn't really recommend it for children to watch because of the atomic bomb aspect and there is a sex scene in it which some may feel uncomfortable watching.  Oppenheimer is just an average man who accomplished extraordinary things but was very flawed like many of us.  The problem I have with many Christian reviewers is that they don't look at the art they just insult the graphic aspects of the film instead of asking what are the weaknesses of man and could we fall into that sin as easily as this person did.  We all have hurts and loves that got away but how are we dealing with it and how can we share in the struggles of others so that Christ can be revealed in our own lives?

See you at the movies.
