Asteroid City, Indiana Jones 5 and other honorable mentions

Hello everyone.  I just watched Asteroid City the new film by Wes Anderson.  Anderson's films are usually different like Royal Tenanbaums, Rushmore, and Bottle Rocket.  Bottle Rocket is my favorite and that would be a film to recommend but not this one.

It borders on boredom sometimes even though the writing is amazing the execution and overall vision is a little out of wack.  It has an idea of a play within a play and sometimes spirals out of control.  I don't see how Wes Anderson keeps making films with so many A-list actors in these art film projects.  It is basically the story of all these people who get stuck in a town during a space club-type activity and then there are interactions with extraterrestrials which keeps everyone trapped there.  There is also a nude scene with Scarlett Johannson.  That would be the one thing that is in the film that is a little inappropriate and that the film was able to get a PG-13 rating kind of surprised me.

Now Indiana Jones 5,  which is called: Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, was entertaining but may not have substance.  The film is a wild ride and many of you may not like how they make Indiana Jones younger at the beginning of the film.  This film shows an older Indiana Jones who is going through grandpa mode in his life.  The new character that is in the film is his Goddaughter: Helena Shaw played by Phoebe Waller-Bridges.  This character helps the story move along but it seems that she is guiding Indiana Jones rather than him guiding her.  It is interesting but falls flat near the end.

This will be the last Indiana Jones film according to Harrison Ford.  So it will be good for Hollywood to finally let the character die instead of regurgitating the same stuff over and over.

I have some honorable mentions I watched on VUDU this past week from my collection.

The first one is Felon which stars Val Kilmer and, Stephen Dorff.  Dorff in this film is sent to prison for 3 years for the accidental killing of someone who is trying to rob his house.  The film goes along a wild adventure showing corrupt and vengeful police taking justice into their own hands.

But the relationship between Val Kilmer and Dorff becomes a relationship of a family without both of them realizing it.  It is a fantastic prison film if you can get through the language of the film and some of the blood might bother you.  But you will see a gem of a film you may have never heard of.

Spartan is a film by David Mamet which also stars Val Kilmer and Derek Luke.  The president's daughter gets kidnapped and a CIA group is trying to find her.  Val Kilmer ad Derek Luke go on a suicide mission to save her life.  Language would be the problem with the film but it is excellent.

The final film that I will talk about is Hardcore Henry.  Talk about a wild ride.  I have not seen very many films that take the first-person shooter view into a film.  But this one does.  For those of you who have seen the Dwayne Johnson film Doom, it reminded me of that.  It is very bloody and has graphic violence but if you want a tour de force that will keep you watching that would be Hardcore Henry.

Take Care folks and see you at the movies.
